Winsor Gallery at Art Chicago 2011

Winsor Gallery is excited to participate in Art Chicago 2011, the annual international fair of contemporary and modern art that brings together the world’s leading emerging and established galleries. 


We have been hard at work installing, and are now ready to welcome the crowds! The show is set to open at 11am on Friday, April 29th, ending on Monday, May 2nd. For those of you in the Chicago area, please visit us at booth #117.  We will be showcasing a selection of sculptures from Vancouver artist David Robinson and Going Round the Art Institute of Chicago, a "reverspective" piece by senior British artist Patrick Hughes. We look forward to seeing you at Art Chicago!

Hippie Chick by Dana Claxton launches April 18th on YouTube and on the Canada Line video screens. Hippie Chick celebrates Vancouver's history of counter-culture using archival footage from the first Easter Be-In held illegally in Stanley Park in 1967, when a large number of hippies and supporters defiantly gathered and claimed public space.

Claxton has reworked the footage to suggest that one of the streams in the hippie movement's demand for social change was manifested through creative expression and collective dance. The female body is self-realized through the right to dance freely.

Hippie Chick is a part of the 10 Seconds project, a year long series celebrating Vancouver 125 curated by Paul Wong and presented by On Main in partnership with In TransitBC. Commissioned by the City of Vancouver Public Art Program with the support of Vancouver 125 and the participation of the Government of Canada.
