RICHARD HENRIQUEZ - SELECTED WORKS

As summer draws to an end we thought we would share with you a beautiful publication on the work of Richard Henriquez.  Something to sink into as the fall brings on more cozy contemplative introspection. In addition to this publication, we also have several other books on other Winsor Gallery Artists available, why not come and visit, see new work on display, and pick up some fall reading? Nothing inspires like art and nothing intrigues like architecture.

Some of Richard's work is currently on display in our September group show. We are featuring one of his iconic Tripod Sculptures as well as four light-box works from Henriquez' Narrative Fragments exhibition, these will be on display until September 29th.

Richard Henriquez - Selected works 1964 - 2005
Essays by Howard Shubert and Geoffrey Smedley
Interview by Robert Enright

For Richard Henriquez, art and architecture are inextricably linked and familial and historic presences must be honoured. His deep respect for the emotional resonance of the past is apparent throughout his oeuvre, which is characterized by a rare sensitivity to ritual, site-specific artifacts, anomalies of scale, surrealism, the Bible, the history of architecture, and building technology.

Richard Henriquez: Selected Works 1964–2005 showcases the man and his work. Tracing Henriquez’s own history—from his upbringing in Jamaica through his celebrated career—the monograph reveals an iconic  architecture that is a record of sensibility rather than monuments. Among the 27 projects featured in Richard Henriquez: Selected Works 1964–2005 are award-winning designs for the exhibition Memory Theatre, which was featured at the Venice Biennale, Vancouver’s Dockside Condominiums, the BC Cancer Research Centre, and Trent University’s Environmental Sciences Building. Henriquez’s work is contextualized through extensive interviews and essays by acclaimed art critic Robert Enright, curator and architecture historian Howard Shubert, and sculptor Geoffrey Smedley.

For those of you enthralled with Richard's most recent work, we also have a smaller publication available at the gallery. This is a chronicle of Richard's recent June exhibition.
