HAPPY PORTRAIT MONDAY

Fosters Pond, 1993, Arno Rafael Minkkinen

Today's Portrait Monday is brought to you by Arno Rafael Minkkinen and Winsor Gallery's Erika Anette.

Arno Rafael Minkkinen is a Finnish photographer who pushes himself (literally) to the limit. He tries to reach the unreachable (and usually succeeds!). In his work he explores the limitations of our human bodies and illusions that can be created with specific camera angles. An additional challenge to his work is his use of himself as the subject. However, he maintains that there are no gimmicks at play - what you see is what you get.

Most of his photographs blow my mind. The way a human body can bend and turn into a completely different shape never ceases to amaze me.
