ART WASTE!

That's right folks, it's the most wonderful time of the year again!

Totally awesome cultural free-for-all, Music Waste, kicks off this week with events all over the city.

Art Waste, its visual art component, opens strong on Thursday night with a group show at Gallery Gachet featuring over 30 local artists. Also opening is Sleepover at Positive/Negative, an exhibition of experimental, intuitive works by Sydney Koke and Alex Heilbron, and I.O.U. at Unit/Pitt, a unique curatorial project developed by Kalli Nedoba, which sees works by several artists retrieved from where they were floating together in the Pacific Ocean and displayed in their current state of beautiful decay.

Friday is jam-packed with more art adventures. Start your night off at Todd Evanger's show at Yactac, then make your way down to the DTES for Future Proof at Project Space, Sascha Yamashita at Gallery Fukai, Andrew Pommier at the Shop, and Natasha Broad/Alex Quicho/Daniel Tatterton at the Gam. Finish strong at some underground spaces with Graham Landin at Sunset Terrace, Felisha Ledesma at Artbank and dyanmic duo Brennan Kelly and Alex Stursberg, also known as Double Happiness, at the Rainbow Connection on 855 East Hastings.

On Saturday, spend some time at Object of My Affection, a two-night only exhibition of work by Maya Beaudry, Ryan Mathieson, and Mandy Mitton at East Van Studios. Catch pleasing sculptures by Lindsey Hampton at Little Mountain Gallery, and by Caroline Weaver at Mail Art on 8165 Main Street. End the night with Kane Hopkins and Daniel Williams at Dynamo Arts, and Nate Lacoste at DIY space Toast Collective.

Nurse your hangover on Sunday with the closing event at Lucky's Comics, featuring work by Katayoon Yousefbigloo and Sylvana D'Angelo in which both artists use the same basic materials to create opposing works. To keep you thoroughly entertained, there will be live music performances and artist zines for sale as well.

We're not sure how we're going to fit any music onto our schedules with so much art on the bill, but we're looking forward to the madness of trying to take it all in. See you out there!
