Winsor Gallery announces
renowned Vancouver artist Martha Varcoe Sturdy joining gallery
VANCOUVER, September 17, 2013 – Winsor
Gallery announced today that acclaimed Vancouver artist Martha Varcoe Sturdy is
joining the Gallery as of October 1, 2013. In the following months Sturdy will exhibit
a selection of pieces at the Gallery with a full exhibit of new work launching
in late spring, 2014. Winsor Gallery is located at 258 East 1st
Avenue, in the heart of The Flats, Vancouver’s burgeoning arts district.
At the October 1st launch event,
Winsor Gallery will exhibit Sturdy’s newest painting and sculpture series
entitled Break-up. Inspired by
northern Canadian landscapes, the pieces offer an exciting preview into what is
to come from her 2014 solo exhibition. The artist plus several of her pieces
will also accompany Winsor Gallery to the Toronto International Art Fair
October 25 to 28 (booth #638).
“I have long been a fan of Martha’s work. She shares a strong connection to the great
Canadian landscape and skillfully uses minimalist clarity to evoke nature’s
complexity and beauty, the result of which is stunning,” says Gallery owner
Jennifer Winsor (@jennifer_winsor). “We look forward to officially exhibiting Martha’s
work this fall at Winsor Gallery and Art Toronto.”
“I have always
been driven to create, whether that be functional, wearable or abstract
sculpture. While STURDY studio has been up and running since 1978, joining
Winsor Gallery offers my artistic practice another creative platform for
presentation and represents my current focus on a new body of work that’s been
in the making for some time,” says artist Martha Varcoe Sturdy. “I look forward
to a long and successful relationship with Jennifer Winsor and the team at
Winsor Gallery.”
