HAPPY PORTRAIT MONDAY

Happy Portrait Monday!

This Portrait Monday is brought to you by Maria Maria Ascha-Kutscher, the British suffrage movement, and the invention of the Pill.

Ascha-Kutscher's images are painstakingly assembled digital collages, whose fragments she has sourced from images pertaining to two monumental moments in history: that of universal suffrage for women, and the sexual revolution that occurred with the invention of the Pill in the sixties.

“Womankind seeks to redefine the meaning of the images upon which the history of women has been built since the invention of photography, where traditionally they have been relegated to the background in paternalistic, hegemonic stories," Ascha-Kutscher explains. "In my collages, I rescue a female historical memory, reflecting both our political struggles and the complexity of our private worlds."
