HAPPY PORTRAIT MONDAY

Today's Portrait Monday is brought to you by the influential mid-century sculptor, Barbara Hepworth (born Dame Jocelyn Barbara Hepworth). Primarily a carver, Hepworth took material departure from her peers in the 1920's by leaving plaster and clay in preference for working in stone, wood, and marble. Hepworth's interest in the figure dissipated during the 1930's in favour of more abstract forms of expression. She worked restlessly until the late 1960's until she was struck by the effects of throat and mouth cancer. Sadly, she died in a studio in 1975.
