DANA CLAXTON CONTACT FILM FESTIVAL

Dana Claxton's colour-saturated photograph "Tatanka (Buffalo)"  has been placed on a billboard at the intersection of Drake and Howe in Vancouver.  The image is a part of her "Indian Candy" series, which wasfirst exhibited here at Winsor Gallery in the fall of 2013.  As part of the Contact Photography Festival`s public installation series, the works were installed on advertising billboards across Canada. The works are bold and graphic and well-suited to public installation. Their new specifically advertising-based site adds new significance to how the series addresses the ways in which indigenous iconography has been used and co-opted by popular culture.

Claxton's billboards are shown at Clarke Drive and East 4th, as well as Clark and East 2nd in Vancouver.  They are also shown in Toronto, Winnipeg, Halifax, Calgary, Montreal and Saskatoon.
