Examining the way in which photography mediated and shapes experience, my practice engages with popular photography, as a language with its own syntactical and semantic rules. My most recent work explores metonymic structures within photographic language in particular within the stock photograph. The work seeks to challenge these metonymic representations while calling attentions to the pervasiveness of these images. Approaching image making with an expanded idea of image, the work undulates between language, object and image exploring what is “sayable” and “unsayble” within these mediums and embracing the generative space between them.     - Michelle O'Byrne
