SEPTEMBER 16 – OCTOBER 24, 2015

Seymour Art Gallery was established in the community wing of Seycove Secondary School in 1985. Under the care of devoted volunteers and a tiny staff, the gallery flourished and found a home in the early 90s within the purpose-built Deep Cove Cultural Centre, where it operates today. Seymour Art Gallery welcomes 25,000 people annually to its exhibitions, programs, gallery shop, and events. Admission to the gallery is always free of charge, as are most programs and events.

Curator/Director Sarah Cavanaugh: “To celebrate the achievement of our thirtieth anniversary, we are highlighting just thirty of the thousands of artists who have shown at the gallery since 1985 in a special anniversary exhibition. I’ve met with them to talk about their artistic practice, their lives as artists, and the importance of our local non-profit gallery.” To commemorate this occasion and exhibition, Seymour Art Gallery has produced a 28-page publication with artwork and quotes from the artists, which will be distributed to local libraries and schools, and a short film featuring artist interviews.

“Looking back over the exhibition records, I’m so impressed with the calibre and breadth of programming that the gallery has presented over the years,” Cavanaugh says. “With the support of such an engaged community of volunteers, members, visitors, and patrons, the gallery will surely continue to grow and inspire for many years to come.”
