ABOUT THE ARTIST

Originally from Viriginia, Pat Webster now lives and works within Canada. She received her Bachelors of Art degree in philosophy from Randolph-Macon Woman’s College in Lynchburg. Since then she has traveled and studied art around the world as an acclaimed installation and sculptural artist. A writer and speaker, Pat also lectures across Canada and the United States.

Influenced by landscapes and history, she became intrigued by the way memories and personal experience shape our view and world. Through site and insight, a written and visual narrative of Pat’s reflections on art, and how history colours our view of the world is formed. This is most evident in her 2017 series of work entitled, Clichés to Live By. This series explores a connection between language, memory and culture, creating an open commentary for the viewer. As she states, “I employ history deliberately, not to commemorate the past but to establish a sense of continuity that adds meaning to the present. Highlighting the passage of time helps me to see the work with fresh eyes. I hope it helps others do the same.”
